Los Angeles National Veterans Cemetary 10-21-06

(NickCarlson)
I have driven by this cemetary many times on the way home from photo shoots and never stopped. I have always wanted to, and decided to today. It is unbelieveable when you see how many served and died for this country. I dedicate this album to them.
I didn't get many shots because the police stopped me from taking pictures. They told me to delete what I took. As you can see, I didn't delete all of them. I feel I was lucky to have kept the shots I did.

Green Tomato Relish

(ClaraSStrollingGa...)
Whether you call it Green Tomato Relish or Green Tomato Ketchup, it's a zingy way to use up all those green tomatoes this time of the year when the tomato plants go into mega-production mode. You know, the time of the season when you can't even give away all the tomatoes. My mom made over two dozen jars of this relish, and I took some pictures as she made the second batch. The kitchen light was off to cut down on the heat, so these are a mix of partial sunlight and the incandescent stove light. Smell was the predominant sense of the day, though! As she chopped big chunks of green tomatoes, red bell peppers, cabbage, purple cabbage, onion, red onion, and green peppers, each scent same at me in waves. The waves of fresh cut vegetable scent blended and filled the kitchen. Ah, but the real tell-tale scent of green tomato relish comes when the vinegar, sugar, and spices hit the boiling water! You could even smell relish in the air pocket between the storm door and wood door at the back porch!

San Pedro is an amazing city. I hope my images can back that up. As this gallery grows my goal is to convince some of you out there that San Pedro is truly a unique and beautiful place, with many different faces. The culture and history within this city make it like no other.

Venice Beach, Ca

Me and my friend went to Venice Beach to look for a unique gift for his girlfriend. The strangest things go on here. I plan on going back with my D70 to get shots of the strange and unique people who chill here.

Stand for Peace 20 mile march for peace

Every four minutes, war protesters in Coiner Park over the weekend sounded a gong. During that period of time, they said, another person — Iraqi or American — was killed in the Iraq War.

It was a sobering thought for the 70 or so people present for the rally on Sunday, which was organized by local peace group Stand For Peace. Following the rally, the protesters marched to Creswell, waving flags and holding signs. There, they held a candlelight vigil for those who have fallen in Iraq. On Monday morning , the group finished out its journey by marching to Eugene.

Fiery Furnace Hike

Fiery Furnace Hike

(NickCarlson)
I took these shots during a ranger-guided hike through an area in Arches National Park known as the "Fiery Furnace." It got its name because of the golden light that hits the rock walls in the late afternoon. It was actually the coolest and shadiest area of the whole national park.
